The Firm assists foreign investors, particularly multinational
corporations, deal with various government regulatory agencies
in the Philippines.
It assists foreign investors by giving them advice and services
in:
• the applicable laws on the various business forms
and alternatives open to investors;
• requirements for doing business in the Philippines;
• legal procedures and documentation for conducting
business;
• nationality requirements for any chosen area of activity;
• incentives available for a particular type of investment;
• linkages with private industry associations and representation
in various government agencies;
• repatriation of investments, profits or dividends
and foreign exchange;
• allied corporate and post-organization requirements
to maintain initial registration as well as upgrade to a more
advantageous status;
• implementation of international mergers or takeovers;
• specialized investments in industrial estates, export
processing zones, free trade zones and tourist/recreational
centers
The Firm has been engaged by foreign investors in a wide range
of activities, such as copra-crushing mill; computer technology;
rubber plantation; semiconductor; electronics; car assembly
and manufacturing; construction; film production; pharmaceutical
products; biomedical research; installation of the first offshore
gas production platform; and pulp and paper plants.
The Firm also represents several multinational corporations
with regional headquarters in the country. It assisted in
drafting the legislation on multinational headquarters and
on regional warehousing.
Complementing the Foreign Investments Department based in
Manila, the Hong Kong branch provides foreign investors in
the territory with advice and information on Philippine laws
and provides Filipinos with legal assistance in investing
abroad.
